Brazil finds itself in a favorable position compared to other Latin American countries in dealing with the United States' new assertive policies in the region, according to Ian Bremmer, a political scientist and founder of the Eurasia Group. This assessment comes in the wake of U.S. President Donald Trump's military actions in Venezuela, which included the capture of President Nicolás Maduro, and subsequent threats to Cuba, Mexico, and Colombia.

During a press conference, Bremmer emphasized that Brazil does not face "national security issues" with the United States. He noted that Brazil managed to secure a reduction in additional tariffs imposed by the U.S. on Brazilian imports without making concessions. This move was seen as beneficial to American consumers and a strategic retreat by Trump, who is keen on maintaining his popularity.

The analyst highlighted that Brazil experiences significantly less pressure from the so-called Donroe Doctrine compared to its regional counterparts. This doctrine, a modern interpretation of the Monroe Doctrine under Trump's administration, primarily focuses on trade rather than security concerns. Bremmer pointed out that despite the U.S. sanctions, Brazil did not yield on issues such as the conviction of former President Jair Bolsonaro or the regulation of social media platforms.

Bremmer also referenced two expressions gaining traction in discussions about Trump's policies: TACO and FAFO. TACO, meaning "Trump Always Chickens Out," suggests a pattern of aggressive announcements followed by strategic retreats. FAFO, on the other hand, implies facing consequences for wrong actions, a sentiment echoed by the Trump administration during the capture of Maduro.
